Twenty-five years after their formation, Skindred have secured the number two spot after receiving an outpouring of love from the heavy music world.

After an intense chart battle this week, Skindred’s eighth studio album ‘Smile’ has reached number two in the UK charts.

Members of Rage Against The Machine, Disturbed, The Blackout and more rallied around the band on social media this week – and despite being narrowly beaten out for the top spot – the band have ignited an incredible feeling of community within their scene.

Upon receiving the news, the band’s charismatic frontman Benji Webbe shared:

“We didn’t expect our 8th studio album Smile to go to number 2 in the UK album charts. I am so happy & ecstatic with the result. To all who pushed & pushed with us in the last week, I got nothing but love, appreciation and sunshine for you. thank you everyone.”

Speaking about Skindred’s mission, Benji also had this to say:

“I really do feel like we’ve got something to say and something to offer the world that hasn’t been done before, in the way Skindred does it… The whole bringing black and white together thing, lifting people up and saying, ‘Come as you are.’ We hope we’re giving people some sort of hope.”

Benji Webbe and drummer Arya Goggin spoke to Rock Sound and gave a track-by-track breakdown of ‘Smile’ – from its summertime ‘L.O.V.E. (Smile Please)’ bop to its emphatic ‘Unstoppable’ closer.

2023 has been a monumental year for Skindred, seeing them take to the stages at GlastonburyDownload and 2000 Trees, as well as opening for KISS.

To add to their recent winning streak, the band recently announced their largest show to date, with a huge Wembley show taking place on March 15 next year.

The event will be in-between two other shows in Manchester (March 14) and Birmingham (March 16).
