Nothing But Thieves have done it: they’ve bagged their first-ever UK Number 1 album.
The Essex band had previously come close, with 2020’s ‘Moral Panic’ coming in at third and 2017’s ‘Broken Machine’ ranking second.
But now they’ve achieved the number one spot on the UK albums charts with their latest album, ‘Dead Club City’.
Speaking to the Official Charts Company, the band, fronted by Conor Mason, have said:
“This is very, very cool. Thank you world, thank you UK, for supporting our record. Thank you for this award, it’s been unreal.
“It’s one of those things that you don’t expect as a band as kids, growing up together. Thank you for buying our record and supporting us for all these years.”
Early figures released at the start of the week showed Nothing But Thieves were on course to take the Number 1 spot, but nothing was guaranteed.
They were fending-off competition from the likes of Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten’s debut solo album, and Elton John’s greatest hits album ‘Diamonds’, in the wake of his popular Glastonbury headline set.
What’s more, the band have now topped the charts with a truly visionary project, via a concept album that challenged the band’s usual rock approach and embraced ‘80s synths and melodies.

Elsewhere on this week’s charts, Lil Uzi Vert secured their second UK Top 10 album, with ‘Pink Tape’ debuting at number seven.
The latest album from the Philadelphia-born rapper, singer and songwriter turned a few heads by not only featuring Bring Me The Horizon and BABYMETAL, but also by featuring a cover of System Of A Down’s nu-metal classic ‘Chop Suey!’.
